Spring vacation in the Salzburg region

Please judge for yourself how beautiful the Salzburg region really is. We can assure you that it is worth experiencing.

The Großglockner High Alpine Road

The highest Austrian peak is also the mightiest: the Großglockner with an altitude of 3,798m and its glaciers is an absolute must from the 2,500 meter lookout point. Depending on snow conditions, the High Alpine Road is open as early as the beginning of May and, with its 48km and 36 hairpin bends, represents a fantastic drive particularly also for motorcycle enthusiasts. Please bear in mind that it is a toll road. A day ticket for motor vehicles costs €34.50.

Salzburg – the city of Mozart

Reasons abound for visiting Salzburg ranging from its cultural diversity, the marvelous linkage between the city hills, the Salzach river and the city to its historic heritage. The first port of call, when with children, would be the castle, the zoo, the waterworks or the popular Haus der Natur (House of Nature). Culture lovers get inevitably lured into the vast amount of churches and museums or simply the flair of the car-free historic center with its cozy coffee houses, narrow alleys and squares embellished with fountains.

Krimmler Waterfalls

The highest waterfalls of Austria are located at the very western end of the Salzburg region at the Tyrolean border. A well-traced waterfall path (hiking time approx. 1 hour) leads you up to the three stages with altogether 385 meters of change in elevation. This corner of Salzburg has already been a popular destination since the 18th century and has not lost anything of its fascination for painters, poets, musicians and nature enthusiasts.

Werfen: Fortress Hohenwerfen and Eisriesenwelt (the Werfen Ice Caves)

As beautiful as any cliché could be, the Werfen fortress comes into view in the middle of the valley about a good half hour heading north. It is worth a trip particularly with children. Yet another highlight can be found besides the flair of a national knight’s castle and the falcon-flight show: the world’s largest ice caves are nestled in the flank of the Tennen Mountains. The Werfen Ice Caves are an absolute must in the summer months (depending on the situation from April or the beginning of May onwards).

Other destinations in the Salzburg region

With all those sites the region has yet even more to offer:

  • Berchtesgaden region, Königssee, Watzmann, salt mine and the Documentation Center Obersalzberg
  • Zell am See with the Kaprun water reservoir and the Kitzsteinhorn perennial glacial ski area
  • Thermal spas in the Pongau area for the occasional rainy days (the Bad Gastein Rock Spa and Alpine Spa, the Altenmarkt Thermal Spa Amadé, the Tauern Spa in Kaprun, …)
  • Around and about the Salzburg region: trips to Tirol, Osttirol, into the Salzkammergut, …

It is worth asking directly at the Seehof team in addition to all these recommendations. Each of us has his or her own true gems as all of us know and love this region.
